Fish Amigurumi 

Need an easy, quick crochet project? Left with scraps of yarn that you are not sure what to do with? This crochet Amigurumi Mini Fish is a fun easy project that only takes a little bit of yarn. It can be left as is, used as a little stress ball, or it can be made into a cute little keychain! 


This pattern is suitable for beginners.

Materials Needed:

  • 3 different colors of medium weight yarn 
  • 4 mm crochet hook (or similar size)
  • 2 6mm safety eyes (or similar size)
  • stuffing
  • yarn needle

Stitches Used in Pattern (US Terminology):
  • single crochet
  • slip stitch
  • half double crochet
  • double crochet
  • chain

Fish Amigurumi Crochet Pattern 

Abbreviations:

  • SC = single crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • DC  = double crochet
  • CH = chain
  • INC = increase (two single crochets in one stitch)
  • DEC = decrease (two single crochets together) 
  • [#] = how many crochets you should have at the end of the row


Body:

Create a magic ring.

Row 1: SC x 6 [6]

Row 2: INC x 6 [12]

Row 3: (SC, INC) x 6 [18]

Row 4: (SC, SC, INC) x 6 [24]

*** Starting on row 5, on the first stitch of every row, do the stitch in the back loop only. This will be where we will build on the back fin (see picture for reference)

Row 5: (SC, SC, SC, INC) X 6 [30] 

Row 6-8: SC x 30 [30]

Row 9: (SC, SC, SC, DEC) x 6 [24]

Row 10: (SC, SC, DEC) x 6 [18]

Row 11: (SC, DEC) x 6 [12]

*Add the eyes between row 3 and 4. Add the mouth at    row 2. Add stuffing.

Row 12: DEC x 6 [6]

*Tie off securely.


Back Fin:  

Step 1: Insert your hook under the first stitch closest to the face that we did in the back loop only (Row 5).

Step 2: In the same stitch CH 2, HDC, DC, HDC, SC.

Step 3: Move onto the next stitch that was in the back loop only and do a SC, HDC, DC, HDC, SC.

Step 4: Repeat step 3 until you have reached the back of your fish. 

Step 5: Tie off securely.
